Moongala and the East Bentleigh Village Garden are firmly committed to
addressing isolation and loneliness in our community, offering projects like
Garden Art to involve and engage local residents, particularly the vulnerable
and isolated, in creative, healthy activities. With a shared commitment to
recycling, revamping, gardening, sharing resources, creative pursuits and
working together, we gathered interested community members, particularly
vulnerable and isolated residents, to participate in weekly art & sewing
workshops at Moongala to:
– make seedling bags using recycled materials for use at the Village Garden and
Farmer’s Market days
– design, screen-print and sew 100 tote bags promoting the Moorleigh
Community Village.
– paint 45 colourful, wooden garden bed plaques (lovingly prepared by the
Bentmoor men’s Shed) – participate in outdoor drawing days and establish a
small Outreach Garden at Moongala.
The art/sewing workshops especially have been well attended, fun and
engaging, with participants working together, sharing their skills, always with
music in the background and lots of conversation and laughter. In the art
classes everyone especially loved learning to print in various forms and are all
keen to do more. The sewers ranged from absolute beginners to the quite
experienced, who were happy to share their skills.
